Another Review! This Time For The High Flying…

Well my opinion on this game was quite unexpected to be honest! But in a good way!
After seeing the television advert I was very LESS than impressed, I dont know about anyone else but to witness the advert if you havent seen anything about the game before it seemed a bit messy and quick…
…but after playing the demo my opinion was swayed! Enough to make me buy the game!
The basic back story begins with government oppression, leading to rebellion, these rebels are branded “criminals”. Therefore these rebels employ the “Runners” (One of which you play within the game “Faith”). These runners are employed to deliver messages and packages around the city because conventional postage is impossible for the rebels. Except all turns a bit sour when the “Blues” start shooting! But Why…..
The idea of a first person free running game didnt appeal to me at first as it seemed a little obscure! For instance “Assassins Creed” was heavily based on the characters free running capabilities but that was in 3rd person, so you could see your character’s movements and what he was doing! But in all honesty the first person view really works in this as for the most part you feel like you are the runner you can see directly through Faith’s eyes, you see where you must go and then must decide what free running skill you need to perform to get where you need to go!
Upon selecting the campaign you are thrown into the action straight away with the training level, in which you learn the basics about how to move around, over, under and through obstacles and how to do it fluidly and quickly. You also learn the basics of combat, but trust me in this game you want to avoid combat! Hence the title “Runner”
Following the training mission comes 10 mission based levels as you take part in some mad high rooftop jumps, speedy escape scenes, and other kickass bullet evading wall running antics.
Although some people may find it annoying, i actually really like the health system, it is very realistic! Just a few shots from a gun or a few attacks in a fist fight will kill you. I find it good as it obviously makes you want to escape and run and dodge as best you can for fear of a quick death!
This game however is rather short, it can be easily finished in one day, on your first play through, as I myself played on normal first to get used to the play, i will soon go on to complete the game on hard.
Upon completion of the levels you unlock speed runs for each of them, in which you have to finish the said level under the set time, (I havent attempted these yet!)
Also you can unlock time trials, in which you have to complete set courses as quick as possible, each of these courses has a 3 star review, you earn better star ratings (up to 3 stars) for each trail dependant on how quick you do it, this all comes down to practise, you will need to learn the course to perfect each hop skip and jump at the right time, because every second is precious, these trials are very unforgiving with the time limits!
The scenery in this game is stunning! The views from the rooftops look amazing and the action is great, a small complaint is that the levels are very linear i.e. your trying to get somewhere as quick as you can without dying
This game has amazing soundtrack…
Still Alive – Lisa Miskovsky
This was one of the first times i watched a game’s end credits all the way through, simply to listen to this piece of beauty <3
So finnally all in all I give Mirror’s Edge – 8 out of 10.
This game is good, I enjoyed the story and gameplay with the excitement of the high flying free running, but due to its rather repetitive play and lack of things to do after story mode / speedruns of the story mode, I have to mark it down slightly.

Have to agree the soundtrack to this game is mint!
Also the game is a huge change from all the usual sequels. One of the few decent games to come out recently that wasn’t just a sequel. Everything else lately seems to have a number after it.
EA have done well with two new franchises Dead Space and Especially Mirrors Edge. Can’t wait for the sequel to this one. I’m sure next time around there will be a few online modes added!
I tried the demo for the 360 and PS3 and the game plays exactly the same. In the end I bought the PS3 version because the controller felt better for this game for some reason.
keep up on your insane blogging, bro. see ya around biatch;)

Nice review. I haven’t bought the game but based on the demo, I think you’ve hit the nail on the head.
